Huntley - Built: 1825
Historic Huntley is a federal period villa that was built for Thomson Francis Mason as a summer retreat in 1825. Thomson Francis Mason, mayor of near by Alexandria from 1827-1830, was the grandson of George Mason, author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights. Over the years, Huntley was also used as a grain farm, encampment for the troops of the 3rd Michigan Infantry during the Civil War, and eventually converted to a dairy farm. After changing ownership several times it eventually was abandoned and suffered considerable damage from vandalism and neglect. After a long restoration it is now a show piece open to the public.
