Mansion at Fort Chiswell
Built between 1839-1840 by brothers Stephen and Joseph Cloyd McGavock on land they had inherited from their father, the mansion was situated on a hill overlooking the original McGavock home on the property, which was destroyed by fire in 1901. The mansion became the family seat and center of an extensive and prosperous plantation.
For over a decade the Mansion at Fort Chiswell was lovingly restored.
