Mount Bleak House (in Sky Meadows State Park) - Built: 1843

On the land purchased from nearby Belle Grove Plantation, farmer Adbner Settle built the main stone section of the house and later in 1850 added the frame portion to accommodate himself, his wife Mary, their six children and father. By 1862 five more children were born. The home changed hands over the years, including George M. Slater, a member of Mosby's Ranger during the Civil War. Today the historic farm house sits within the 1,864-acre Sky Meadows State Park among scenic views, woodlands and the rolling pastures. The home is furnished with antiques from the colonial to the civil war period.
